Derby grabbed an undeserved win in the Premier League at Pride Park.

Within seconds of the start, Les Ferdinand hit a scorching shot that rebounded back off the crossbar, but a goal by Dean Sturridge, seizing on Wilson's header, gave the Rams the lead against the run of play.  A goal soon after the break was created by Jurgen Klinsmann for Ruel Fox to stick away the equaliser, but on 77 minutes, Paolo Wanchope steered the ball past Walker for the winner.

Spurs had a struggle to overcome Derby County in this League Cup Third Round tie.  Jose Dominguez and Chris Armstrong had early chances before a 21st minute goal put Tottenham ahead.  Ginola's strength held off three defenders to curl a shot past Mart Poom in the Derby goal.

Armstrong went close in the next attack when he hooked a shot over his shoulder and it went the wrong side of the post by inches.  However, five minutes after going ahead Gary Rowett's free-kick was flying harmlessly out of play, but it inadvertently bounced off Paulo Wanchope to divert it past Walker for an equaliser.  Ginola tested Poom's reflexes twice and Fox's cross saw Robert Kozluk clear very well from under his bar as Armstrong looked to convert it.

Chances were being created at both ends, with Sinton at one end and Paul Trollope and Robin van der Laan at the other going close.  In the 70th minute, Wanchope fired a shot past Walker at the near post to put Derby ahead and although Spurs pushed for a leveller, Armstrong failed to reach a low cross from Ginola, the French winger then hit a low shot that Poom saved and Dominguez's volley hit Poom with a volley.

A diving Colin Calderwood header grabbed the three Premiership points for Tottenham in this game at White Hart Lane.

Spurs made a lot of goalscoring chances, including a very good save from Poom from a 14th minute Ferdinand effort, but had to wait for Sinton's free-kick to be converted by the Spurs defender for a goal right on the half-time whistle.

A failure to convert the opportunities could have cost Tottenham and Derby pressed with Robin van der Laan, Deon Burton Igor Stimac, Christian Dailly and Ashley Ward all going close , but the penalty award near the end for a foul on Dominguez saw David Howells fire over the bar to leave the final score 1-0.

A tight League Cup Fourth Round match was won by just one goal from Nicky Barmby, scored in the 71st minute of the tie.  Spurs strung a good move together to produce a fine chip from Steve Sedgley that hit the crossbar and came out to find Barmby, who head home the rebound.

Spurs were in the ascendancy, forcing Martin Taylor to save from Barmby and Dozzell, before Samways struck a shot against the bar late on in the game.  Erik Thorstvedt also had to be sharp to keep out two efforts from Paul Simpson.

29.09.1973 Ralph Coates hit a single goal to win this match and to give their first home win of the season.  The midfielder stabbed home the ball from inside the six yard box as the blue shirted Derby players stood statuesque.  Spurs could have added to their lead in the second half, when Alan Gilzean took the ball around Colin Boulton, but found David Nish in position to clear his effort off the goal-line.

07.02.1973 A titanic encounter was settled in extra time, just when it looked as though Spurs had the FA Cup Fourth Round replay wrapped up.

Martin Chivers' early goal gave Spurs the early initiative, after Gilzean passed the ball out of his own area and five players were involved before Cyril Knowles' cross was converted past Colin Boulton in the 20th minute.  Derby pressed forward for an equaliser, causing the Spurs defence problems with McGovern going close and Kevin Hector hitting the bar, with Archie Gemmill following up to have his shot kicked off the line.

Spurs went two ahead, when Chivers' long throw was headed against the bar by Gilzean, who got up to force the ball over the line.  Things were going Tottenham's way until the 72nd minute of the second half, when Hector hooked O'Hare's pass into the net.  The game then swung the other way, with Mike England converting a penalty awarded for John McGovern's handball.

Two minutes later, Roger Davies took a Webster throw and carved his way through a group of defenders to make it 2-3 and then the striker was picked out by O'Hare, turned and shot past Jennings to make it all square and to take the tie into extra-time.

The first fifteen minutes were tense, as Spurs tried to overcome the setback, but two minutes into the second period saw Derby go ahead for the first time.  Hector's corner was headed home to complete Davies' hat-trick and Derby's route to the Fifth Round was confirmed when Davies returned the compliment for Hector to run through with seven minutes left and slot past Jennings to make the final score 5-3.

03.02.1973 This FA Cup Fourth Round tie ended in deadlock and headed back to White Hart Lane for a replay.

Spurs had the better of the first half, with Derby not imposing themselves on the visiting side, but making food poisoning victim Pat Jennings work hard to preserve his goal.  Chivers produced a fierce shot that stunned Boulton in the Derby goal and it hit him and bounced out.  As Derby came into the game, Archie Gemmill fired in a shot that just cleared the bar, but in the 79th minute, Hennessey slipped up to present Chivers with a chance that he stuck away after Jimmy Pearce's shot from Peters' free-kick was blocked.

The Rams poured forward and Spurs held out until the 85th minute, when a free-kick caused panic in the penalty area and Davies reacted first to prod home the loose ball to make it 1-1.

Spurs were left five places below Derby after this First Division win, but two goals sealed the home victory for Tottenham.

With 20 minutes gone, Greaves got into the box unnoticed to head home Jimmy Pearce's cross into the net to put Spurs ahead, then the legendary striker had two efforts disallowed before putting Gilzean away on the flank with a 30 yard pass.  Gilly crossed the ball in for Roger Morgan to convert for the second Spurs goal.
